Armored Core: Verdict Day

The AS-12 Aves, also known as a Recon AC, appears in Armored Core V  as a mass-produced, lightly-armored unit. They make a return in Armored Core: Verdict Day renamed as the Hellkite A-84.

InformationEdit

A flight type unit less than half the size of an Armored Core, the typical AS-12 is designed for support and recon roles. They are lightly armed and armored, but are often deployed in large groups or alongside other more power units in battle. They are one of the few that can transform, switching between humanoid and flying modes to increase their speed or combat effectiveness.

Although the AS-12 Aves is relatively weak, the unit is quick and capable of dealing a surprising amount of damage at close range with a TE pulse machinegun, while they use rockets (on some models) to engage enemies at medium range. They are considered a nuisance due to their highly-agile nature, often popping on the unwary and dealing a nasty blow to the enemy before fleeing again.

The AS-12 Aves are often deployed in large numbers alongside other, more powerful units. They are heavily used by both the City Police and the Men of Honor mercenaries, and briefly used by the Corporation during their indiscriminate assault on the City.

ACV VariantsEdit

Like other mass-production units in Armored Core V (and Verdict Day), the AS-12 comes with many different "packages" -- namely differentiating, customized variants of the original, base model. Each one has an appearance distinctive from the other, and varying loadouts.

AS-12 AvesEdit

The original model. Lightly-armored, mobile. Equipped with a pair of arm-mounted guns that fire bursts of thermal rounds in a similar fashion to custom AC pulse machine guns. These units pose little threat individually, but are considered fairly dangerous in groups.

AS-12L Aves/LEdit

"Light" comes to mind when one comes across this model, either on or off the battlefield. The Aves/L is far more fragile when compared to other variants, but makes up for it by being extremely difficult to capture and/or destroy thanks to its increased mobility. A notable difference from the basic model is that the Aves/L is equipped with a pair of light missile launchers mounted on the machine's 'arms'.

AS-12R Aves/REdit

One of the least/rarest variants used by Migrants, the Resistance, City Police or Corporation, the Aves/R is often used to scout out areas for weaknesses in their defenses (hence the designated letter "R"). These variants appears to be a mix between the Aves/L and basic Aves models; combining the greater mobility of the former and the versatile firepower of the latter. Because of this blend between firepower and mobility, the Aves/R's weapons deal significantly less damage than the basic models' pulse guns.

AS-12H Aves/HEdit

The heaviest of all the Aves models, the Aves/H possesses the highest defenses of all variants. The additional armor and strengthened chassis however makes this models far slower than the others, making it far easier to track and shoot down. To compensate for this lack of mobility, along with the additional armor plating, the Aves/H has the highest damage potential among all other Aves models, often being able to heavily damage an unwary AC with its weapons. Unlike the other variants, the Aves/H comes equipped with two configurations:

  • 1): Light missiles and pulse guns
  • 2): Heavy missiles and light CE cannons

While these units are highly-mobile in comparison to other mass-produced models and can quite adequately dodge incoming fire, the Aves is (structurally) the weakest, often being destroyed in less than a couple of rounds. This is subverted (to an extent) many generations later, when the AS-12 is fazed out of service by its replacements, the A84.

ACVD VariantsEdit

In AC:VD, more than 100 years after the events of ACV, the AS-12 Aves' design returns to the battlefield; albeit with slight differences. These more recent additions -- called the A84 Hellkite -- are considerably more mobile and maneuverable than their predecessors. The Light, Heavy and Recon variant designs are still widely-used as they were many generations ago; but due to introduction of the Foundation's advanced technology, the Recon AC has become a much more viable unit on the battlefield.

Hellkite A-84/HMEdit

A special model introduced during the Verdict War. These units are unlike other variants of the base Hellkite model; namely due to their physical appearance, movement methods and their weapons.

They are more streamlined and aerodynamic in design, lacking any of the familiar external armor-plating of the original Hellkite variants.Instead of the traditional dual or multiple nozzle engines so unique to the Hellkite and Aves series, the Hellkite/S possesses only one main engine nozzle. While this may seem unorthodox to the Hellkite's mobility, the engine can be adjusted in any direction, granting the unit quasi-directional movement capabilities and freeing up on the amount of attack vector options open to it.

It also has an improved weapons loadout consisting of two, arm-mounted HEAT Machine guns and dual-mounted pulse machineguns. These weapons are considerably more dangerous than the standard units, and can fire in large bursts, dealing a tremendous amount of damage.
