Briefing[]
Crest is still reeling from the attacks mounted by the satellite that screens the Silent Line. We intend to take advantage of this situation for as long as possible.
Our advance team has lured a detachment of Crest forces into the Archive Area. We'd like you to conduct an ambush.
Due to heavy electromagnetic storm activity, weather conditions in the area are poor. Visibility is limited and electronic instruments can't always be relied upon to function properly.
Given the difficult nature of this mission, hiring a Raven was the obvious choice. Don't let us down.
Enemies[]
- Boubalos MTs
- Exocet MTs
- Corpse Maker
Dialogue[]
Emma:The storm is affecting instruments performance. |
Emma:You'll have to play it by ear. Be careful. |
Emma:Enemy AC detected. |
Corpse Maker:You're good... but that last battle must have worn you down. |
Emma:Backup has arrived. |
Gunner:Raven, I'm opening fire. |
Corpse Maker:Guuuaaahh" |
Allies[]
- 1 Grand Rock-S26 bomber (it will appear if you take too long to defeat Corpse Maker)
Walkthrough[]
This is one of the most difficult missions in the game. There's an electromagnetic storm in the area that will pretty much render your radar and FCS useless. To make matters worse, the accompanying sand storm is going to hinder visibility a lot, and in result is very easy to get lost in its midst and suffer repeated attacks from barely seen enemies. Fortunately, it IS possible to wait for the storm to clear out. Once the storm clears out, you can now see and target the enemies much easier. The best recommended strategy is to head for the north west side of the map (where there is a hill, where the FLEET booster is found in the previous game) and hide down there to evade enemy fire until the storm clears.
Once the storm clears and the enemies become visible, you can now take them out much easier. The enemies in this level are rather durable and mobile. The plasma-firing hover MTs are surprisingly mobile and the bazooka firing MTs can take quite a load of punishment (plus they gain extra mobility once their external armor is destroyed). The key here is to avoid as much of the shots as you can and also not waste too much ammo on the enemies (you have to fight an AC later). It's preferable to have a high ammo machine gun or a high ammo missile launcher (such as the triple missiles) and use them to destroy the MTs. Another way is equip sniper rifles and pick off the enemies from range and have a missile launcher with relay missile extensions. A faster AC is also recommended in order to avoid becoming surrounded and cover the battlefield more easily (as well as it will help with the AC fight later on).
Once all the MTs in the level are gone, Corpse Maker will appear, hoping to finish you off after a long battle with the MT battalion you just have destroyed. His Health Taker AC is a highly agile and mobile OP-INTENSIFY enhanced AC equipped with multi-missiles, a powerful lightweight laser cannon and linear gun weapon arms. He also has the tendency to fly several times. Ensure that you still have a reasonable amount of armor to face him or you will most likely get killed. Fortunately, despite his numerous advantages, Corpse Maker's ultimate weakness is missiles, as he doesn't possess any sort of missile defense whatsoever. However, do note that his AC emits lock-on cancellation pulses so missiles with more than one lock may not be effective against him. This is why triple missiles are recommended to use against him as they only need one lock and have a high ammo count. Alternatively, utilize a multi missile launcher, or take quad missile weapon arms. As long as you can dodge around his shots (and that is what you need a more mobile AC for), he is going to eat your missiles fast and get blown up, completing the mission.
If you happen to take too long in defeating Corpse Maker, a stealth bomber will appear. The bomber will then provide supporting fire while you engage him. Just make sure to avoid his missiles and strafe constantly to avoid his laser cannon and linear gun shots as the former can deal massive damage and the latter can cause overheating, not to mention both can fire very rapidly. Since Health Taker isn't at full durability, a few missile salvos from the triple missiles or another decent missile launchers should put Corpse Maker down relatively quick.
Trivia[]
- Archive Area Ambush is offered in the mission Accompany Air Transports if done quickly.
- It is possible to wait for the electromagnetic storm to clear off. Once the storm has cleared, it will be easier to spot and target the enemies. However, during the time when you are waiting is also when you are vulnerable to enemy attacks, it is advised to seek cover behind a rock in one of the corners of the battlefield.
- If you take too long to defeat Corpse Maker, an allied bomber will show up to assist you.
- Can obtain the leg part MLM-XA3/LW. You need to complete the mission with 50% AP and destroy the AC.
- In Silent Line Portable, the KBT-T000 booster is hidden near a boulder at position x 00628 y -00034 z -00545 in the northwestern corner of map.
