"Attack the Dam Complex" is a Chapter 1 mission in ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON. It is one of two mandatory missions alongside "Destroy the Weaponized Mining Ship," unlocked after completing both "Destroy the Transport Helicopters" and "Destroy the Tester AC."
In-game information[]
Combat zone: Southern Belius - Gallia Dam Complex Objective: Attack Base/Destroy Infrastructure
|
Objectives[]
- Annihilate enemy MT squad/Destroy target facilities
- Destroy remaining target facilities
Alternate
- Annihilate enemy MT squad/Destroy target facilities
- Defeat G4 Volta/G5 Iguazu
Walkthrough[]
The primary objective for this mission is the destruction of four large generator facilities scattered all over the map. At the start of the mission, players will be accompanied by two allied AC's who will provide support for the mission: G4 Volta and his tank AC CANNON HEAD, and G5 Iguazu with HEAD BRINGER.
The first Generator facility is directly in front of the player's starting position, guarded by a small contingent of vehicles and MT's. To the right across the ice lake is the second Generator found on top of a large concrete building, defended by four defense turrets and a larger group of enemies. Players need to eliminate all enemies (the "frontline troops") guarding the first two generators in order to proceed, otherwise their progress will be hindered by an invisible map limit.
The third generator is higher up the dam complex behind a snowy valley guarded by MT's and vehicles, along with two gun turrets overlooking the inlet leading inside. Finally, the fourth generator is on the highest part of the map, on top of a tall building within an ice lake. Thankfully a vertical catapult can be found by the first level of the building, allowing players to reach the last generator conveniently. Destroying all four generators will complete the mission.
The base of the fourth generator is guarded by a handful of MT's, and the AC BURN PICKAXE piloted by Index Dunham. Players can choose whether to fight BURN PICKAXE, or just leave him to fight G4 Volta and G5 Iguazu, however players can acquire a Combat Log if they manage to kill Index Dunham themselves.
Alternate[]
This mission has an Alternate version that appears during New Game Plus and after, replacing the Standard version of the mission on all subsequent playthroughs. After destroying the second generator along with eliminating all the frontline troops, the Rubicon Liberation Front will contact the player and offer them double of Balam's pay in exchange for defeating G4 Volta and G5 Iguazu. A prompt will appear allowing players to choose whether to Refuse or Accept the offer.
If players Accept the offer, all of the RLF forces in the mission will no longer be hostile to the player, and G4 Volta and G5 Iguazu will become hostile entities.
If players Refuse the offer, the mission proceeds onto the standard objective of destroying the remaining generators.
Volta and Iguazu will separate and attack the dam from two different approaches, which has the fortunate side-effect of isolating them from each other. The player has the choice of choosing who to prioritize first.
Iguazu is piloting an AC named "HEAD BRINGER", a mid-weight bipedal AC armed with a machine gun, linear rifle, pulse shield, and 4-shot missile pod. His main strategy is putting up his shield and sniping using charged linear rifle shots, which is surprisingly effective thanks to his AC's maneuverability and the terrain being fought on. Iguazu's weakness is that he generally lacks the damage necessary to truly be a threat on his own. He is fighting on the high ground of the dam.
Volta is piloting an AC named "CANNON HEAD", a heavyweight tank AC armed with a hand grenade launcher, shotgun, twin split-missiles, and a Songbirds grenade cannon. He is a powerhouse that can dish out damage and tank it as well, but his main weakness is that his AC is ill-suited for navigating the map, due to his poor boost stats and choice of generator. This makes him very vulnerable to hit-and-run tactics and being isolated from his partner. He is fighting at the bottom of the dam.
Both will remain unaware of the player's change in allegiance, until they're attacked first. Once attacked, both of them turn hostile, and will rally back to their partner's position once they're done dealing with enemies in their sector. Due to this, it is recommended to take down Iguazu first, as Volta has a generally hard time navigating the map due to his AC's setup, and has a slight chance of being outright stuck on the dam and leaving his partner to fend for himself. Even if he does make it, it becomes easy to isolate Iguazu again by simply just running around the map and leaving Volta to catch up.
Once Iguazu is taken down, taking down Volta becomes much simpler due to his AC's slow speed, but he it is not wise to underestimate him, as his AC is still built to withstand straight-up fights. Playing into his weakness, having a maneuverable AC and doing hit-and-run attacks using the rough terrain makes the fight much easier. The best time to deal massive damage on him is to wait for him to discharge both his GOU-CHEN and SONGBIRDS, as this deprives him of any instant-stun weapons for at least 6 seconds.
The mission ends once both ACs are destroyed.

| Briefing | Handler Walter: Got a job for you, 621. You're joining an operation planned by Balam HQ. ...Check the briefing. G1 Michigan: Heard the good news from Walter, did you?! Good! Sit your ass down and listen! Balam's moving in on the Gallia Dam Complex, one of the Liberation Front's bases. The objective is to destroy their lifeline—and make those sacks of shit beg for mercy! I'll be sending two good-for-nothing maggots from the Redguns: G4 Volta and G5 Iguazu. You, you're just going to be tagging along on ass-wiping duty. I'm assigning you the callsign G13—a lucky little number that just became available. G13, sound off! Good enough. Now go get ready! We're going on a field trip, kiddo! |
- | - |
| Sortie | Handler Walter: ...G13, huh. I'll stick with "621." Don't let the Redguns teach you bad manners. | - | - |
| Mission start | G1 Michigan: Balam Group AC squad "Redguns," reporting for duty. Commence mission. Attack! Get in there, you maggots! G5 Iguazu: Great, an independent merc. Who's the wise guy who decided the Redguns should be taking care of some freelancer? G4 Volta: Who gives a shit? We'll handle the[sic] mission ourselves. |
- | - |
| Delaying destroying targets | Handler Walter: Take out the infrastructure, 621. And lend a hand where it's needed. | - | - |
| Destroying first generator | Handler Walter: One target destroyed. G5 Iguazu: Hey, freelancer. Bet no one even told you why we're here. Well, us real Redguns are gonna go climb the Wall. This is just target practice. When we're done, the locals' little base is next. G1 Michigan: G5! Can't tear yourself away from chatting with the tagalong? Why don't you start a sewing club together... and stitch that damn mouth of yours shut?! |
- | - |
| Destroying second generator | Handler Walter: Two targets destroyed. G4 Volta: How about that. Guess you're not a total amateur. G1 Michigan: G4! Can't say I considered you a pro, either! We don't need backseat drivers in the Redguns. Shape up, or ship out! |

Does this guy ever shut up? G1 Michigan: G5! No luck with the sewing club, I see. That attitude won't get you far on Rubicon. Hope you pilot better than you sew! |

| Destroying third generator | Handler Walter: One more target remaining, 621. | - | - |
| Engaging Index Dunham | Index Dunham: Do you hear me, you corporate vultures?! The Rubiconians will never yield. You're going home in armored coffins! Forged in ash, we stand as one! G5 Iguazu: Hot dog. They got an AC. G4 Volta: More like an old piece of junk. It's barely different from an MT. G1 Michigan: G4! You're not exactly cutting-edge either... You want to be next on the scrap heap? |
- | - |
| Index Dunham's HP falls to ~50% | Index Dunham: Independent mercenary! Why be a mere pawn? What honor is there in serving corporations that exist only to kill and plunder? | - | - |
| Player AC destroyed | G1 Michigan: G13! Are you normally this incompetent or do you have to try? Don't answer that—you're fired! | - | - |

| Post-mission conversation (If "Destroy the Weaponized Mining Ship" has been completed) | V.II Snail: You must be the handler, I presume? For the independent mercenary Raven. Handler Walter: Honored to make your acquaintance, V.II Snail. V.II Snail: I understand you want to join Operation Wallclimber? You do realize that disposing of some Liberation Front garbage hardly qualifies you. Know your place, you meager dog sitter. The answer is no. Handler Walter: I hear you're deploying V.I again. Must be rough only having one good pilot to rely on. V.II Snail: Oh? Are you suggesting your dog can take Freud's place? Handler Walter: You'll see. Just give us the chance. V.II Snail: ...Very well, then. We're also deploying V.IV... ...who's been equally brazen of late. Let's see how they both perform. |

Notes[]
- Accepting the RLF's offer to defeat the Redguns in the Alternate version will result in the upper dam Tetrapod MT becoming non-hostile, preventing players from killing it to gain its Combat Log. On the other hand, the now-friendly Tetrapod can be used to provide fire support if players manage to lure G4 Volta and G5 Iguazu to its location.
- If players decide to attack the Tetrapod, G4 Volta and G5 Iguazu will not accompany them: both will stay out of the general area of the fight, and unfortunately the Tetrapod is territorial, refusing to leave the area of the dam it is guarding.
- The Standard version and the Alternate version are considered two different missions under "Replay Mission", and are thus graded separately for the purposes of ranked completions.
- Accepting the RLF's offer in the Alternate version unlocks the "Stop the Secret Data Breach" mission in Chapter 2 (refusing the RLF's offer will have altered dialogue in the mission if it is unlocked via NG++), and also changes the "Underground Exploration - Depth 2" mission into its Alternate version.
Trivia[]
- In the New Game+ alternative mission, the voice behind the Rubicon Liberation Front counteroffer is audibly Middle Flatwell.
