Cornelius Archibald is a mercenary who appears in mission 03-4 of Armored Core: Verdict Day.
Biography[]
Origin: Magion City. Male, age 31.
Though reasonably well-known among some mercenary circles, it was equal parts fame for his accomplishments and infamy for a notorious obsession with his bottom line that saw him abandon work mid-mission on several occasions when changing circumstances meant the contract was no longer worth the pay. Minimizing AC repairs and conserving ammunition appeared to be the closest thing to a hobby the man knew.
He was killed in action at Massif Dolango by the Lone Mercenary
AC Trompe-I'Oeil[]
Trompe-I'Oeil is a light reverse joint Armored Core that uses a KURETAKE mdl.1 and AM/SRA-133 sniper rifle along with Su-J-R44A AS missiles. The craft's superb mobility allows the pilot to quickly gain height and maintain range to pepper the opponent with sniper and missile fire.

This guy is really more of an annoyance than being actually dangerous. While his sniper rifles have a good bit of accuracy, they can be negated or rendered ineffective if you have high KE resistance. He will also make use of his AS missiles frequently to harass you, so having a secondary defense to CE is also necessary. Preferably a medium biped with high KE and moderate CE defense is best for this mission, as Cornelius Archibald uses weapons of those 2 damage types.
As for dealing with him, Trompe I'Oeil is light and agile, but is highly fragile. It is evident in its low AP value and low CE/TE resistance. As Trompe I'Oeil is designed to fight at longer ranges, it doesn't have appropriate countermeasures for close-range combat. Thus, fighting him at close range is a good strategy. Use rapid fire CE/TE weapons such as H.E.A.T. machine guns or Pulse machine guns as he lacks sufficient defense stats to those 2 damage types. Since he's also highly mobile, having high mobility will also help in being able to keep in pace with his attacks.
