AC Longspear

AC Longspear

Deathgrip is an Irregular in Silent Line: Armored Core.

Information[]

He is encountered during the mission Repel Assault. He is killed by The Raven while attempting to destroy a Mirage solar power conversion plant.

AC Longspear[]

Longspear is a heavyweight two-legged AC equipped with an OB core, dual back magazines, a bazooka, a laser blade, and energy anti missile extensions.

Strategy[]

The following information is "gray area" content — it may not be completely factual, and/or falls under YMMV territory.

Although Deathgrip's AC appears relatively simple with only a single weapon brought to bear, don't let it fool you. He is a good shot with his bazooka and will give you problems if you don't take him seriously. On top of this, Deathgrip will frequently fly, often trying to gain higher ground while attacking. Don't let his heavy frame deceive you, Deathgrip demonstrates surprisingly high mobility for a heavy AC, with his constant flying and agility, he is by no means a mere pushover that you can just brush aside.

Due to his accuracy, staying further away from Deathgrip is advised, as his bazooka's accuracy will diminish at longer distances due to its slow projectile speed. While it does deal a good bit of damage, it fires rather slowly, so he can be outclassed with weapons that have higher fire rate and DPS. Since Deathgrip only has his blade to fall back on besides his bazooka, you can use this to your advantage--staying out of close contact range will ensure he will never get a chance to hit you with his blade, thereby forcing him to rely solely on his bazooka for its main damage output.

Do note that he does have ammo backpack on his back unit to supplement his ammo, making running him out of ammo a frustratingly time-consuming process. Fortunately, Deathgrip has a habit of firing even when there're obstacles in the way, which will make him waste his bazooka rounds. While it is tedious, it is possible to run him out of ammo, essentially turning him into a moving target with no ranged attacks, making it easier for you to pick him off. It is not advised to stray close to Deathgrip as he does have a fast-swinging blade and more often than not, he is competent enough to lure you into a corner where he can spam his blade repeatedly and turn you into scrap metal.

Another thing to note is that in the mission, there are plasma cannon turrets that will come online after a period of time. It is possible to wait out Deathgrip while strategically avoiding his attacks, and allowing the turrets to pick him off once they are activated. But note that he will continue targeting you even when the turrets are active, so do not cease your avoidance.
