"Defeat AF Answerer" is a mission in Chapter 4 of Armored Core: For Answer.
Briefing[]
This is Maximilian Thermidor.
Your target is Answerer, a high tech Arms Fort manufactured by the Interior Union and Omer.
The Answerer is bristling with the latest Kojima arms tech. It is considerably stronger than other Arms Forts you might have encountered.
Its a deadly foe. The battle will be hard, but if you are successful, we will move right into the final phase of the Closed Plan.
Malzel and I agree. You are the only one who can pull this off.
This is the end game. We're counting on you.

Dialogue[]
Serene Haze:Commence mission. Destroy the Arms Fort Answerer. |
Serene Haze:They must be using a massive amount of energy to keep this thing afloat. Start your attack run now, hit it wherever you can. Destroy the outer shell. It won't hold up too long. We can bring this thing back down to earth. |
Serene Haze:(If targeted with grenades)Our attack...some kind of new defense mechanism? |
Serene Haze:Massive amounts of Kojima energy...emanating from the core!? It's attacking with Assault Armor?! Get out of there, now! |
Serene Haze:(Hard Mode)High-density Kojima particles detected throughout the combat zone. Your Primal Armor is useless. They've stripped us naked. Those readings, the're off the charts, And it's not even an enclosed area...! |
Serene Haze:Good. It's working. Continue the attack run. |
Walkthrough[]
If you want to destroy the AF Answerer really quickly, equip a Kojima blade, EN blade, or a Kiku. Set the regulations to 1.15, then start the mission. Fly to the core where the Assault Armor charges, hit the spot above the core and in one hit, the Arms Fort will fall. (See how at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt4ptK8nDbs) (For first time players, it is suggested to use regulation 1.20 or 1.15. This walk through assumes that you do not use 1.20)
The mission is simple enough, and as straight forward as it gets: kill the thing.
To start, it is recommended that one assemble their NEXT to have prolonged flight capabilities. It should be noted that this is almost the only option, as attempting to attack the Answerer from below will only result in a very quick death, since even the most heavily armored AC will be butchered by the numerous Kojima missiles and laser cannons located beneath each wing. Very rarely, if underneath but at the correct distance, the Answerer will also fire a set of 4 needles of kojima energy into the ground near the player from its spikes, detonating seemingly randomly in kojima explosions, and dealing massive amounts of damage while doing so. Along with this, if grenades are brought and used at a distance, they will explode prematurely before hitting the target. Also, mobility is a must, as shall next be discuseed.
So you got wings? Now what? First order of business is to learn how to stay alive.
If you followed the advice, you will only have two (perhaps 3) things to worry about: the obligatory missile spam, Assault Armor, and ammo. The huge "arms" on either side of the Answerer will launch a huge number off missiles, all of which have very good tracking and ECM resistance. However, they are all vulnerable to flares, and it is suggested that flares be equipped in the shoulder weapons slot, preferably ones with a large capacity. Once that is done, the next problem to address is the massive Primal/Assault Armor system employed by the Answerer. In short, any long ranged attack (sniper rifles, railguns, missiles, etc) will be completely and utterly useless, and would just be a waste of ammunition, time, energy, and weapons slots. Also, be sure to equip a very powerful Overed Booster and generator, as you will need it. Every so often, the core of the Answerer will begin to pulse with green light. Surprise! It's an Arms Fort sized Assault Armor. Make sure you are skilled and comfortable with you Overed boost, as it is almost the only way you can escape the blast radius in time. Do not worry though your operator will (most of the time, it has even been observed that she may stop completely or not even at all) warn you when the armor is almost recharged. It is then that you should immediately cease engaging and flee as fast as possible. If your operator -for whatever reason- stops/is not warning you, it will be up to you to constantly keep an eye on the spikey underside of the AF and be sure to get out of the way (even if it is not immediately going to go off, it is never a good idea to no play it safe, as each hit landed will reduce your AC's armor points by half twice, after wards it will do a set amount of damage until it simply kills you outright.
So you know how to stay alive, but there is one major roadblock in your way: ammunition. Since the Answerer can easily be called a flying version of the Spirit of Mother Will, the same general tactics apply. But there is one large problem: the missiles of the Answerer can easily wear down and destroy even the best NEXT. So, it is recommended that you bring any combination you feel comfortable with of the following:
- Grenade Cannons- Lay down the law with big explosions. Simple as that. Get the most powerful one you can with the largest ammo capacity (find a good balance, Nukabira is recommended) Though heavy, they are the second best weapon to take out the AF with relative ease.
- Rockets - Rockets can be accurately fired without closing the range and do enormous amounts of damage, almost as much as grenades. Skillful aiming can see the AF fall within moments of the mission starting.
- HI lasers/Plasma cannons- Not as powerful, but many times more accurate than Grenades, these are the least effective of the recommended weapons.
- Laser Blades- What can possibly kill an Arms Fort faster than these? Nothing. Any blade or melee weapon will do. Blade length does not matter, since you will be up close and personal the entire fight, if not literally hugging the actual hull of the AF. So bring out your most powerful weapon (preferably not ones with limited ammunition, but the pile bunker can more than make up for that limited usage).
- The Kiku is an effective weapon, despite its limited ammo. a few solid hits can knock it to the ground in less then a minute. it doesn't matter where you hit the thing, so target the wings to knock away the missiles and lasers.
- Assault Armor can cut the Answerer's Kojima attacks short. there are many niches that a player can hide in so you can recharge their shields while staying our of range of the lasers, missiles, and the Arms Fort Assault Armor.
These are only recommended, but a word of caution: any other weapons will simply not do enough damage if they hit (or have enough shots) to finish the Answerer off.
To start, immediately ascend as soon as the mission begins and overboost toward the AF. If you have a hard time avoiding missiles, or simply do not have the energy to do so, make sure to launch flares a few moments before the missiles hit. This will increase their effectiveness, since the missiles will be far enough that they might not still hit or simply not register the flares at all.
Once you are in, target the massive pods holding the missile silos and gatling guns (let it be noted that the gatling guns do not fire, but can still be destroyed. When one is destroyed, all the others adjacent to it will also be destroyed in a chain reaction. It however, has no visible effect, nor does it appear to actually damage the AF. These are best left to simply be destroyed as collateral damage by your main attack.) Speaking of which, your first order of business is to destroy all silos. This can be achieved by simply shooting each pair of launchers (characterized by a small hole with a rim around it located on each side of pod coming halfway down.) Or, you can exploit what may be a glitch or simply the most convenient weak point ever and fly right up to the sides of the pod and attack them with a powerful melee weapon. After a few strikes, everything on the pod will be completely destroyed.
By this time, the Assault Armor should be ready, and your operator will shout a warning. The best advice is to run. After the blast, feel free to immediately turn around and continue the attack, launching flares as needed.
Repeat this action with the opposite pod, and the missile launchers near the central structure. Once all are destroyed, the only attack that should be left at the Answerer's disposal is the Assault Armor and the HI lasers (which you will evade by not flying below the AF). From here, you are really free to finish the Answerer off however you like. The easiest way is to land on each wing and hit it repeatedly with melee weapons, which will eventually destroy it. Alternately, if you only have ranged weapons, take to shooting the massive spikes surrounding the core. Let it be noted that after enough damage is taken, your operator will remark that you are "knocking the Answerer off balance!" this is entirely unnoticeable save for the fact that the AF will sway ever so slightly. This can be just barely enough to give the cannons mounted on the underside of the wings a brief clear view. This firing angle may last for a second, but any gun with the opportunity will fire, so be sure to avoid the unnecessary damage.
Eventually, the pain will rack up, and the AF will go down in a spectacular explosion. It also takes a sizable portion of the city with it, and the explosion just happened to be a massive Kojima detonation from the reactor.
Short version: get a NEXT good for flying, take out the missile pods by busting up the outer/lower ends of them just below the 4 cannons on the edge while looking out for the AA attacks, make a daring hit and run towards the launchers near the top of the AF's main body. then you're clear to break it apart with no possible danger but that posed by the Answerer's Assault Armor.
