"Defend the Dam Complex" is a Chapter 3 mission in ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON. It is one of the missions available after completing Attack the Old Spaceport, alongside Historic Data Recovery and Eliminate "Honest" Brute, replacing the Defend the Old Spaceport mission if players previously accepted the Rubicon Liberation Front's offer during Attack the Dam Complex on New Game Plus.

In-game information[]

  • Combat zone: Southern Belius - Gallia Dam Complex
  • Objective: Destroy Enemy ACs
  • Reward: 450,000 COAM, Battle Log
  • Details: Destroy two top-ranking independent mercenaries.

Walkthrough[]

Taking place on the same map as Attack the Dam Complex, players start out on the upper end of the dam, and must make their way down through the entire complex to find the two targets.

To the left is King and his AC ASTER CROWN, a tetrapod AC armed with a pulse shield, triple-barreled shoulder laser cannon, burst SMG, and linear rifle, alongside an assault armor extension. King specializes in maneuverability, constantly moving around with his shield deployed to avoid damage, while charging his weapon in order to deliver massive damage and guaranteed stagger. Two ways to deal with King is to either rush him down up-close and attempt to keep him stunned to prevent him from charging his guns (along with keeping him grounded), or engaging him at mid-range where his charge attacks are telegraphed and easier to dodge (vertical and side attack-weapons are recommended to bypass his shield).

To the right is Chartreuse and her AC UMBER OX, a tank AC armed with a diffuse shoulder laser cannon, earshot grenade shoulder cannon, double-barreled laser rifle, and a hand-bazooka, along with pulse armor. Chartreuse is much less maneuverable than King due to her setup, but can unleash a truly devastating amount of damage due to her assortment of weaponry, if her salvos are allowed to connect. Her weakness however, is that her setup does not do well at close range, and can find herself easily stunlocked to death if the player can push her off the dam and beat her down in a corner.

Players can choose which one to fight first given each AC's distance from each other, though if one of the target AC's is attacked eventually the other will come to their aid, either once the enemies in their sector are dead, their partner is on their last repair kit, or they died. The mission is essentially a mini-time trial, all ACs must be destroyed as quickly as possible in order to prevent the player from fighting a prolonged handicap battle. Unlike with most AC assassination missions, players have the entire dam complex to fight in, giving a wealth of options when it comes to evading the enemy AC's and separating them whenever possible to gain the most advantageous positions to fight. There are also scattered friendly RLF MT's found throughout the map which players can use to their advantage to provide fire support against the enemy AC's.

It is recommended to take down Chartreuse first, as her AC does not have a shield like King does and has a hard time maneuvering the terrain due to her tank tread setup, which makes her easy to isolate and rush down. Once she's dead, King is much easier to take down, especially if he's distracted with RLF friendly units that will either chip at his health or force him to face another direction (which his shield cannot defend from).

After a certain amount of time has passed (typically after Ayre says the line "What other Ravens?"), a third enemy AC will arrive, which is revealed to be Raven and their AC NIGHTFALL. Asides from the two original targets, players must now also eliminate NIGHTFALL in order to complete the mission. It is recommended that the player have defeated either ASTER CROWN or UMBER OX by this point, otherwise players will have to face three enemy AC's at once. NIGHTFALL thankfully can take several seconds to reach the player's position depending on where the player is on the map, giving enough time to prepare for NIGHTFALL's arrival.

Nightfall itself is ironically the easiest of the three, but not without risks. While Raven's AC is not very maneuverable nor is it very hardy, his array of kinetic-based weapons allows him to easily rack up ACS stagger if one is not careful, especially with his assault armor, and the biggest threat is his pilebunker, which is almost guaranteed death if it successfully connects when charged. Other than that, Raven's a straightforward fight.

The mission will complete once all three enemy AC's have been destroyed.

Trivia[]

  • 621 having to defend the RLF's Gallia Dam from three ACs mirrors the earlier mission "Attack the Dam Complex" wherein Index Dunham was the dam's sole AC defender against three ACs; one of which being 621. All three also somewhat mirror the people involved in said mission:
    • King is analogous to G5 Iguazu. Both of them are cocky and look down on their opposition not being a true member of their organization (Not a true Redgun for Iguazu and not a true Raven for King). Both of them also pilot maneuverable ACs that rely on shield sniping with linear rifles.
    • Chartreuse is analogous to G4 Volta. Both of them are headstrong and dismissive of their opposition being low-tech (Volta dismissing Dunham's low-tech AC and Chartreuse dismissing 621's old Gen 4 augmentations). Both of them also pilot tank-type ACs built around firepower.
    • Raven is analogous to 621. Both are silent characters with a spokesperson to do the talking for them. Both of them have also changed the fate of Rubicon significantly. (Raven leaking the existence of Coral on Rubicon 3 and 621's entire journey on the planet).
  • This mission is a trap for C4-621 is evidenced by the Branch members' dialogue when the player is destroyed. If King and Chartreuse are both still intact, King will abort the attack on the remainder of the Gallia Dam Complex, much to Chartreuse's surprise, and make it clear that C4-621's elimination was Branch's true purpose in accepting a job from Arquebus against the RLF.
    • Sending 2 top-ranking independent mercenaries to attack the Dam Complex is overkill, while Balam can finish the job with just 2 Redgun members who are placed at 19/D and 17/C.
