Briefing[]

A massive weapon believed to be under the influence of The Controller made an unexpected appearance today. We've never seen anything like it.

It's a single unit that is neither AC nor MT, but obviously something of great power. The best our forces have managed is to keep it contained and away from the city.

The target is currently sealed off in Section 732, an abandoned city district submerged when an earthquake shattered its retaining bulkhead. Take care around the water.

Walkthrough[]

Your target in this mission is a Massive MT-resembling submarine war machine that is persumably of Controller origin. It has an array of powerful weaponry and can submerge regularly to avoid counterfire.

Despite that, this mission is not a particularly difficult one. This thing might look deadly, but with proper strategy proves to be a pushover.

First off, take a hover leg AC for unrestricted movement. Second, go behind it and take some powerful weapons. Third, strafe around to avoid its attacks while unloading your guns into its tail. If you get close to the thing and hit it with an Exceed Orbit, Flamethrower, and a rapid fire weapon simultaneously, it'll die in seconds. Another effective combo is a spread bazooka + howitzer. As the weapon leaves itself exposed to attacks for long time after grenade volleys and is a big target, it will soak damage like a giant sponge.

The massive weapon has three armaments of its own: a vertical multi missile launcher that fire when submerged, two wing-installed grenade cannons, and an orbit cannon. The missiles are best avoided by going past their trajectory and grenades can be evaded by strafing or taking cover. Against orbit guns, simply stay mobile - the target uses them mostly to harass you while submerging.

Suburban King can easily complete the mission by himself, if he manages to sneak upon the Massive Weapon from behind and keep attacking it while its attention is concentrated on you.

Trivia[]

  • You should equip hover legs for this mission.
  • By doing this mission with the OP-INTENSIFY part equipped, you will unlock blade wave capability, which is the ability to fire blade waves from the laser blade.
  • As a plot-critical sortie, this is one of the few missions where failure can cause a game over, so it is recommended to save your data before attempting it.
  • There is a hidden part in this mission, the KWB-MARS. It can be found in front of the starting platform, on the scaffold. You should use hover legs to grab it, as there is no ground to stand on.
  • There is a glitch in some versions of the game that causes the mission to auto-fail if you leave the starting platform too early. If you run into this, remain on the starting platform for the duration of the enemy's first missile volley, then drop down.
  • Despite what the briefing claims, it remains unproven that this Massive Weapon was produced by the Controller. Coupled with the fact that after completing this mission your only successive option is Investigate Magna Ruins, may suggest that this mission could have been, the Mirage's first attempt to dispose of the player character before he is able to go after the Controller. This would mean that the Massive Weapon was actually let "loose" by Mirage on purpose and only "contained" towards a suitable area where it was expected to kill The Raven, only for the latter to unexpectedly succeed, prompting Mirage to resort for a treacherous plot next.
