Genobee is the top-ranked Raven in the Arena of the Ravens' Ark. He has a mission success rate of 100% and works primarily for Crest Industries. His standing with Crest is at a point where the company takes measures to keep him alive,[2] and one of their in-house AC pilots apologizes to him for failing a mission.[3]

Biography[]

At one point, Genobee appears before a team of the Mirage corporation's MT-09E-OWL MTs after they had just defeated several Crest CR-MT85Ms.[4]

As tensions brew between Mirage and upstart corporation Navis over the new resource the latter discovered, Genobee assists another Raven in repelling from Navis' headquarters, Bayload City an MT-09E-OWL squad sent to disrupt the area's communications in preparation for an all-out assault by Mirage. Dual Face skates through the cityscape, swiftly dispatches the MTs using only its laser blade and rifle, all without suffering a single hit itself, then quickly leaves.[5][6]

He later faces that same Raven in a training exercise organized by Crest to prepare Genobee for an upcoming war against the other companies.[2]

Armored Core Nexus Genobee last stand in Bayload City

Splinter group ringleader, Genobee's final stand in Bayload City's ruins

After Crest withdraws from the conflict, Genobee refuses to obey Crest HQ's orders to pull out and leads[7] the Crest forces in the region to continue the battle, prompting Crest HQ themselves to fight the rebels. As Crest HQ emerges victorious, Genobee makes his last stand at the remains of Bayload City against HQ's assassin, the Raven he first met at Bayload City, whom Genobee warns that the "relics of the past" — the very resource the corporations are fighting over — combined with human arrogance will lead to humanity's downfall.[8]

If Genobee is defeated[]

Genobee is killed by the enemy Raven, putting a definitive end to the splinter group.[7]

If Genobee is victorious[]

Genobee defeats the enemy Raven but does not kill them, then disappears from the public eye. Although Crest is unable to locate Genobee, the splinter group is considered finished regardless.[7]

Genobee cutscene game intro

Genobee in the opening cutscene of Armored Core: Nexus' story mode

Genobee is an Armored Core: Nexus NPC. He first appears in the story mode's opening cutscene confronting Mirage MTs. Next is in the "Special Forces Removal" ending cutscene where his involvement depends on the player's actions — if the player succeeds, Genobee will eliminate the fleeing MTs then leave; if the player fails, then Genobee will save them before one of the MTs can further damage the player's disabled AC. The post-mission report will say that Mirage was thwarted by two Ravens if the player wins; otherwise, it will credit only one Raven.

Afterwards, "Training Exercise VS AC" has the player test an unknown AC that is only revealed during the mission proper to be Dual Face. Defeating Genobee is optional but if the player wins, then Genobee will accept the result and the Crest representative overseeing the exercise will express shock at Genobee's loss then caution him to not overexert himself. The reward for the mission is 226,000c, and Crest covers the player's ammunition and repair expenses.

For the EVOLUTION disc's antepenultimate boss fight, Genobee is the target of "Eliminate Crest AC." If he is defeated, the player will be paid 360,000c and the post-mission report will confirm his death; whereas, if the player fails the mission, then it will be reported that Genobee merely disappears. He will then be removed from the Arena regardless of the mission's outcome.

Genobee is ranked 1 in the Arena at the start of the game but the player can supplant him towards the end of the story.

Arena analysis[]

A middleweight AC design that is equipped with weapons which enable it to effectively engage targets at any range. Dual Face is not to be trifled with.[9]

Computer analysis[]

"AC Dual Face identified. The unit is equipped with a high-powered grenade launcher. Opponent's combat style will vary depending on range to target."[8]

Strategy[]

The following information is "gray area" content — it may not be completely factual, and/or falls under YMMV territory.

Despite the information blurb and his prominent role in the story, Genoebee is surprisingly easy to deal with for a "boss" type AC.

His strategy is quite shallow and predictable, as Genobee will often opt for jetting as high as possible while raining down repeated barrages of grenade rounds. While they do pack a decent punch, they take time to fire, which can give you ample time to move out of the way before he can pop off another shot. Despite having OP-INTENSIFY upgrades, Dual Face's speed is still somewhat slow due to being horrendously overweight, he needs to put effort into taking flight and is often too slow to turn quickly enough to face more agile ACs, allowing for players to score unanswered hits on Genobee as he haplessly tries to turn with his back facing you. This way, you won't have to worry about being pounded by his grenade launchers, and will simply need to focus on ending the fight as soon as possible.

Also, for a midweight AC, Dual Face's defenses and AP are somewhat mediocre, and it doesn't help that his overweight frame significantly hinders his ability to quickly move out of the way of incoming fire, despite having OP-I enhancements. With these traits readily apparent in battle, Genobee becomes something of a laughing stock when trying to be imposing or threatening, with so many glaring flaws in his AC. He is vulnerable to all types of weapons, including missiles and his own grenade launchers. Due to his affinity for attempting to stay as close to you as possible, weapons like shotguns, machine guns, and even blades are all effective to use on him. While Genobee does come equipped with a blade of his own, it needs him to be within contact range for it to be useful--staying at a distance or getting behind him will negate this threat entirely.

Because Genobee's overall DPS is somewhat poor, heavy ACs are also viable to be used on him. Build a tank with high-power and rapid fire weapons and shields, and lay into him while you absorb his grenade shots. It will make for a humorous sight as Genobee will fly about haplessly doing nothing else aside from futilely trying to damage race you with his slow-firing grenade launcher.

For all intents and purposes, Genobee is quite disappointing for a "boss" AC that plays a prominent role in the story. With other pilots in the game having proven to be much more challenging than the likes of this Crest loyal lackey, Genobee barely presents a challenge as he presents himself as a slow-moving, hovering target that lacks sufficient speed to utilize his already-slow heavy cannons to full effect.

Trivia[]

  • At the start of Armored Core: Nexus, Genobee has 306,725 points in the Ravens' Ark rankings, with a perfect record for both his mission and Arena showings. By "Eliminate Crest AC," he wins twelve out of twelve Arena matches, keeps a 100% success rate over sixteen missions, and accumulates 390,906 points.
  • Genobee takes mostly Crest assignments but he also occasionally works for Kisaragi and Navis, though never Mirage.[10]
  • The English version gives him a monotonous, robotic voice.
  • The Raven Mollycoddle from Armored Core: Last Raven pilots an AC identical to Dual Face and uses an emblem that is Genobee's but mirrored.
  • His name is likely a mistranslation of "Zinovie," which shares its origin and meaning with Zinaida's name, suggesting a link between the two.
  • Dai Takamura has commented that, in his eyes, Zinaida and Genobee are brother and sister.[11]
  • Japanese hobby company Kotobukiya released a 1/72 scale Dual Face model kit in April 2007. Kotobukiya later released a more in-game accurate color of Dual Face as a limited edition.
  • In Armored Core: Formula Front, Crest's u-AC for the R-League, CR-ZNV uses the same frame as Dual Face and the name is a pun on Genobee's.
  • Genobee is one of the Ravens whose AC is made entirely from Crest parts, the others being Cypress and Agraya.

Speculation[]

The following information is "gray area" content — it may not be completely factual, and/or falls under YMMV territory.

* Genobee's monologue could imply that he somehow knew Navis's recovered technology would go out of control and that he wanted to destroy it. In this case, Crest may have eliminated him in the interest of securing Navis's weapons for themselves.
