"Finally! You act real tough, but can you back that up? Its time for you to retire. Out with the old and in with the new!" - Jack Golding to ACV's Protagonist.

Jack Golding is a Migrant Pilot encountered in Armored Core V's Order Missions. He appears as the enemy of Order Mission 06. He pilots the AC Flame Fly.

Overview[]

Encountered in Order Mission 06 at the Marine Facility, Jack is a brash, young individual who aspires to uproot the legendary mercenary and become the greatest mercenary alive. His AC, Flame Fly, is a low-cost, non-threatening unit known for its bright red coloration, distinct emblem and its overall low AP.

AC Flame Fly[]

In-game information: A medium-weight, bipedal AC constructed from cheap parts. Favors weapons with high rapid-fire performance, such as rifle and pulse machine guns. Notable for its charge attacks despite an AC configuration with low AP and CE resistance.

Flame Fly, as stated, is a medium-weight, bipedal AC constructed completely from the cheapest parts available to the player: Junk. Its overall defensive capabilities are rather poor, as are its weapons -- only consisting of a junk-model rifle, pulse machine gun and a pair of pulse guns. When it comes to delivering damage, Flame Fly lacks the firepower to effectively take out even the weakest of AC's.

Strategy[]

Any build you have been using up until now will be effective against Flame Fly: lightweight, medium, heavy, tank, reverse joint, tetra-pod -- literally anything will beat him. Being the first major mook (or "elite-mook") to fight in the Order Missions, he is relatively easy to fight against, when compared to any other AC encountered.

In general, this AC is a joke: weak weapons, low AP, and just generally refuses to outmaneuver you to achieve dominance in the fight. He will rush you from the front, but due to his AC's parts, he won't be able to get a lock onto you until he is right in your face; which gives you adequate time to blast him to pieces with whatever firepower you have available. The only weapons worth mentioning that would pose any real threat is its pulse guns. These weapons are low-cost, junk-versions of the very first "repaired" pulse guns acquired in the game, and can deal a surprising amount of damage to non-TE focused AC's (although they are still far weaker than most other models).

Any weapon setup will work against him. Due to the easy nature of the mission and his behavior patterns, any loadout will work against him. Just aim, wait for your FCS to get a lock, and let your trigger fingers do the work.

Just keep at a distance and wail on him. If you're brave, hit him with a pile, blade or even a boost-charge. He will fall extremely quickly, and is a good way to farm team points and money if you are having trouble beating some of the other missions.

All in all, Flame Fly is no major threat to you, and his AC is paramount to what happens when pilots decide to go cheap.

Trivia[]

  • Although it has not been officially stated, its is believed Jack Golding was either:
    • A rookie during the "Post-City Collapse" era of the ACV timeline (Order Missions) who aspired to overthrow the big man (ACV's protagnist) in his way.
    • Was already serving on the battlefield and had simply run low on funds to repair his original AC.
    • Or is simply a Migrant who salvaged parts from wreckages, constructed his own AC, and attempted to raise his funds by taking on contracts.
  • In both the English and Japanese versions, Jack Golding is portrayed as a brash, young, teenage individual who does not respect those around him (this is proven heavily in his Japanese dialogue).
  • He uses an AC constructed entirely of Junk Parts.
  • The first AC encountered in the Order Missions.
  • His pilot and AC name heavily references Golding's book: Lord of the Flies.
  • Due to the way the weapon tuning system works in Armored Core V, Flame Fly is often endlessly farmed because of the low difficulty of his A.I. and the low defenses of his Junk AC, leading him to become a bit of an in-joke in the fanbase. His grudge against the player base for killing him repeatedly may have manifested as a spirit of vengeance in Armored Core: Verdict Day, where his emblem is discovered and used by another mercenary known as "Jack" who displays psychosis as a result of being "possessed" by the emblem.
