The Mealworm, also known as Coral mealworm, is a hostile creature in ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON. Native to planet Rubicon 3, these creatures are found deep beneath Watchpoint Alpha, attacking anyone trespassing their habitat.

Mealworms are large worm-like organisms with the size similar to certain Generic Weaponry. They have 9 pairs of legs and a large mouth with multiple layered teeth, and have blue-green glowing stripes on their body. These creatures remain dormant in the absence of intruders, and can also be clinging on walls and ceilings or burrowed underground.

Mealworms feed on Coral and are raised as a food source for Rubiconians.[1] However, given Handler Walter's shocked reaction to the mealworm's size, the ones found as enemies are likely abnormal. Compared to raw Coral, the edible product from mealworms are described as "diluted" and only contains a small dose of Coral.[2] A large amount of derelict mealworm breeding pods can also be found in the "Unknown Territory" beneath Watchpoint Alpha, predating the Fires of Ibis and presumably the source of mealworms in the region.

Gameplay[]

Mealworms are encountered in both variants of the mission "Unknown Territory Survey." They can be seen immediately after entering the bottom cavern and begin to attack when the player AC come close. Numerous mealworms are resting on walls or underground, and will emerge upon player's arrival on certain areas.

The mealworms can perform a lunge attack in an attempt to bite the player AC with their mouth, or spit out active coral to attack from afar. Their most common and dangerous attack however is a Coral based self-destruct attack that will deal massive damage and impact. The stripes on the body will glow brighter when a mealworm is preparing an attack, and the mealworm will glow red with Coral particle effect if it is about to explode.
