The Navis Conflict[1] is a dispute between the nascent corporation Navis and the megacorporation Mirage over a new resource discovered by the former. It takes place from ED 0260 to ED 0261.[2]

History[]

In ED 0259,[2] Navis had discovered in one of their regions a breadth of lost technology that proved the existence of a lost civilization.[3], and which then enables the young corporation to stand toe-to-toe with the dominant older corporations. In ED 0260,[2] Mirage uses their position in the Organization for Administrating Enterprise (OAE) to demand that the resource be publicly shared but Navis refuses to relinquish their hold, putting the two at odds.[4]The OAE's subsequent repeated failures at arbitration culminate in Navis' secession, which Mirage then uses as an opportunity to wage war.

War[]

Crest Industries sides with Navis by supplying numerous of their own forces, their in-house ACs included, to combat Mirage on multiple fronts. When Mirage focuses on taking Navis' resource mine, however, Navis' headquarters,[5] Bayload City is suddenly seized by Crest in a surprise betrayal.[6]

Crest splinter group leader, Genobee makes a final stand inside the remains of Bayload City

After much feuding, Mirage overwhelms Navis and Crest pulls out due to extensive losses. Despite this, Crest forces in the region refuse to withdraw and go rogue to continue the battle, even destroying a team of in-house ACs sent by HQ to deal with them.[7] The ringleader,[8] Genobee — high-ranking member of the Ravens' Ark and previously one of Crest's most valued war assets — attempts a last stand at Bayload City, warning that the relics of the past and human arrogance will only lead to destruction. Ultimately, however, the splinter group is defeated.[9][10]

Meanwhile, Navis loses to Mirage their prized Borbos Mine, one of the region's sources of lost technology and one of Navis' last strongholds following Crest's treachery,[11] then ultimately crumbles after their attempt to control a lost superweapon goes awry.[12][13]

Aftermath[]

Nexus Unknowns leaving Borbos Mine

Countless suicide drones leave the underground facility

Mirage immediately sends a team to secure the Borbos Mine but they are annihilated by weapons of unknown origin.[14] The other major corporation, Kisaragi's investigation of the area leads to them activating the facility's control devices. Kisaragi realizes too late the dangers they have unleashed but they urgently contract a Raven anyways in the vain hope of preventing a disaster.[15] Despite their efforts, the facility unleashes in ED 0261[2]an untold number of unmanned suicide weapons (later labeled "Unknowns") that wreak indiscriminate havoc all over the globe,[16] crippling all the major powers and nearly destroying human civilization itself.[17]

In the aftermath, the weakened big three corporations — Crest, Kisaragi, and Mirage — form "Alliance" to reestablish world order, and the Ravens' Ark dissolves due to the drastic drop in their forces; Ravens' Ark leader Jack-O is presumed dead. Six months later, Jack-O resurfaces as the leader of Vertex, an organization dedicated to establishing a new world order led by Ravens. In accordance with this is Vertex's formal declaration of war: a publicly-announced, coordinated major offensive against Alliance. Alliance, in response, places bounties on the Ravens that side with Vertex, causing Jack-O to do the same to Alliance-aligned Ravens. A fierce struggle between Alliance, Vertex, and the independent Ravens and warlords then ensues over the course of the twenty-four hours preceding Vertex's attack.[17]
