"Ocean Crossing" is the final mission of Chapter 2 in ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON.

In-game information[]

Combat zone: Western Belius - Upper Grid 086, Outer Shell

Objective: Reach Destination
Reward: 330,000 COAM, Battle Log
Details: Reach the intercontinental cargo launcher found deep within the outer shell area of upper Grid 086.

Objectives[]

  1. Reach the center of Grid 086's upper level
  2. Destroy the drones in the vicinity
  3. Board the container on the cargo launcher
  4. Destroy the C-Weapon SEA SPIDER
  5. Board the container on the cargo launcher

Walkthrough[]

The mission will begin in the chamber where the EC-0804 SMART CLEANER was fought in Infiltrate Grid 086, the player will proceed forward and ride an elevator to the top of Grid 086 where PCA satellite lasers surveil. The lasers are extremely dangerous and difficult to dodge, therefore it's highly advised to remain in cover.

Once the elevator reaches the top of the Grid, the player may proceed forward and re-enter the Grid through exposed roof grates to avoid the PCA satellites. Inside will be 5 relatively harmless PCA drones, though the gate leading outside to a bridge will have 2 PCA drones immediately to the right, marked by LOGHUNT.

Hugging the right from leaving the gate will lead to a train tunnel back inside the Grid interior, where 2 additional PCA drones marked by LOGHUNT can be found alongside the "Comms Record: Doser Chatter" data log.

Returning to the gate and hugging the exterior on the left instead will eventually lead to a closed gate with a wreckage outside containing the "Image Data: STV Sketch (2)" data log.

Proceeding forward to the cargo launcher will be an incomplete bridge exposed to the PCA satellites, therefore players should fly underneath the bridge as it has large supports that can be carefully landed on to recover EN. Players can use Assault Boost to safely cross the bridge's gap and move from cover to cover to arrive at the objective.

Arriving at the cargo launcher will provide shelter from the PCA satellite lasers but is guarded by several PCA drones, utilize multi-lock to quickly dispatch them. A Supply Sherpa will be made available prior to boarding the cargo launcher container.

IA-13: SEA SPIDER[]

The cargo boarding sequence will be cancelled and the RRI C-Weapon IA-13: SEA SPIDER will appear from above, smashing the container. The SEA SPIDER is a resilient and dangerous machine capable of devastating close and long range attacks, notably its Coral Oscillators on its legs and top-mounted Coral turret. The mech will also utilize Coral cluster missiles and fully-automatic Coral guns.

The SEA SPIDER's secondary weapons serve to constantly diminish the player's AP and build ACS strain, therefore the player should be constantly mobile and strafing the SEA SPIDER in order to avoid its full-auto Coral lasers and cluster missiles.

The most devastating attack the SEA SPIDER can utilize in close range is bringing two of its legs up and slamming them down with Coral Oscillators, a variant of the attack has the SEA SPIDER higher in the air before striking, with its hind legs having damage collision. The easiest way to avoid these attacks are to quickboost towards the SEA SPIDER, having the Oscillators overshoot and slam behind the player. Alternatively, the attack is relatively harmless to an already airborne AC.

The Coral turret is its most potent weapon at range, capable of firing 2-3 charged shots at intervals in addition to a Coral laser sweep of horizontal or vertical direction. The SEA SPIDER will telegraph the turret when it begins to charge up and at what direction it's aiming, facing the player will be charged shots, facing down will be a vertical laser sweep, and facing to the side will be a horizontal sweep.

It will enter Phase Two when it is brought to around 40% AP, where it will begin to hover in the air and fire a charged beam at the ground which will send around a shock-wave. Players should get airborne before it does this powerful attack.

Overall, the SEA SPIDER's arsenal will change in this phase, with its cluster missiles having a different tracking pattern and its full-auto Coral lasers turning into more potent scatter shot lasers.

It will no longer utilize its Coral turret and will instead use its underside Coral beam for a sustained ground laser sweep attack or charged beam explosion, though either attacks do not threaten an airborne AC unless out of EN. Its Coral Oscillators can now be activated on all six legs for a spinning attack towards the player, though the SEA SPIDER will initially charge at a low angle, allowing the player to dodge it through flying over it.

Defeating the SEA SPIDER will lead the player to re-attempt boarding the Cargo Launcher, which will conclude the mission.

Condition English Japanese Audio
Briefing Ayre: We're continuing through Grid 086, toward the intercontinental cargo launcher. As promised, Carla has agreed to serve as our guide. I'm not sure how safe it is to trust a Doser... but if we turn her down, we turn her knowledge down as well. ...One more thing, Raven. "Cinder," Carla's nickname... That's what the Rubiconians call survivors of the Fires of Ibis. But if the Fires happened half a century ago... Well, it could just be some Doser inside joke. - -
Sortie Ayre: This will be our third sortie together, Raven. I'm quite enjoying the routine. - -
Mission start "Cinder" Carla: Here we go, tourist! I'll lead the way, just as promised. But after this, you owe me one. - -
Activating elevator "Cinder" Carla: This elevator goes straight to the top of the Grid—the outer shell. Sadly, that's beyond my territory. I mean, once you're out there, the PCA's satellites see everything. A few of the stupider Dosers took it as a challenge—went out to prove themselves. You can guess what happened. - -
Elevator arrives topside Ayre: We've arrived at the top. Sending you new marker data. It's as Carla said. At this altitude, we're within firing range of the PCA's satellites. - -
Spotted by PCA Outer Shell Security PCA Outer Shell Security: Intruder detected in forbidden sector. Terminating target. - -
PCA satellite targets player PCA Outer Shell Security: Terminating. - -
Spotting PCA drones inside Grid interior Ayre: ...That must be the PCA's security system. - -
Crossing the incomplete bridge "Cinder" Carla: ...Well, nowhere to hide now.
Ayre: Brute force it is, then.
- -
PCA satellite targets player "Cinder" Carla: Don't get fried!
Ayre: That's an extremely powerful laser. Be careful, Raven.
- -
Crossed the bridge "Cinder" Carla: Nice moves, tourist. - -
Crossed the bridge (Dodging PCA lasers without cover or getting hit) "Cinder" Carla: ...Never thought I'd see an AC dancing through the PCA's lasers like that. Nice moves, tourist. - -
Arriving at waypoint near cargo launcher PCA Outer Shell Security: Intruder has escaped satellite range. Raising threat level. - -
Approaching cargo launcher Ayre: We're not far from the cargo launcher...
PCA Outer Shell Security: Intruder detected near closed facility.
"Cinder" Carla: ...Might as well clean up while you're here, tourist. Never did care for the upstairs neighbors.
- -
Eliminating PCA drones "Cinder" Carla: ...That's what I like to see. Let's get the cargo launcher ready.
Ayre: There. Access the container.
- -
Boarding cargo container "Cinder" Carla: Now, if you could just step inside...
Ayre: Wait! Enemy detected!
- -
SEA SPIDER appears Ayre: <gasp> That machine...
"Cinder" Carla: ...Great. You found a C-Weapon. That, tourist, is a SEA SPIDER... One of the Institute's relics left to haunt Rubicon. Now, what's it doing here?
Ayre: A Coral response—from the generator... This is no ordinary machine. Be careful, Raven.
"Cinder" Carla: That machine was created by a bunch of mad scientists, tourist. The Fires of Ibis may have taken the Institute, but their dirty work survived.
- -
Player AP below ~30% Ayre: Raven, your AC is damaged. Focus on evasive action!
"Cinder" Carla: Ugh... Who leaves a C-Weapon out for someone to trip over?
- -
Player AC destroyed "Cinder" Carla: ...That's that, then. Guess you just can't beat the Institute... - -
SEA SPIDER's AP falls to ~75% Ayre: It's taking damage—keep it up, Raven! - -
SEA SPIDER's AP falls to ~40% "Cinder" Carla: What the— It's taking off!
Ayre: Another Coral response... Watch out!
"Cinder" Carla: ...You know, this could be some good R&D data. Can't wait to get back to the workshop.
- -
SEA SPIDER's AP falls to ~25% Ayre: It's taken major damage. You can do this, Raven...!
"Cinder" Carla: Smash it up, tourist!
- -
Player AP below ~30% "Cinder" Carla: Push back, tourist!
Ayre: You can hit just as hard. Stay focused!
- -
Defeating SEA SPIDER Ayre: Enemy systems down... The generator's going to explode! - -
Following SEA SPIDER's defeat animation Ayre: ... They were using Coral for fuel...
"Cinder" Carla: That was quite the show, tourist. ...How about we get back on track. Hop in the container. I'll operate the launcher from here.
- -
Boarding cargo container "Cinder" Carla: Brace yourself. - -
Cutscene following boarding "Cinder" Carla: By the way, tourist... You're Walter's hound, right? Well, I guess a dog can't choose its master... But still...tough luck. I feel sorry for you, I really do. ...Oh, and one more thing. You know the cargo launcher's strictly for cargo, right? No one's ever used it to launch themselves before. At least not in one piece. ...Hope your luck changes.
Ayre: ...Raven? You... You see it too, don't you? The voices of the Coral... Currents coursing across Rubicon. ...Walter was correct in his judgment. The Coral... It's here, in this desolate place.

Debriefing COM: Augmented human C4-621: Entering Standard Mode. Two new messages.
Handler Walter: Looks like you've made it to the Central Ice Field, 621. Good. I'm done tying up loose ends. Arquebus found their own way in and are ready to deploy survey squads. And it looks like Balam's come running after you scoped out the place, too. You know what's going to happen: business as usual. But you can make it work for us.
ALLMIND: Registration number Rb23, callsign Raven. Your records have been updated. D-Rank virtual encounters are now available in the Arena. These correspond to the middle ranks. We invite you to further hone your technique.
Ayre: Raven. I was looking into the Arena, and I discovered something you might want to know about. It's a network service that was labeled "Nest," with no obvious clues about its purpose. From what I can tell, it's a special mercenary support program—encrypted and kept secret. I've installed a backdoor, so you'll have no trouble getting in as you please.

Ayre: Raven. I've been looking into the Integration Program, and I turned up something interesting. It looks like ALLMIND's been gathering data on new craft no one even knows about yet. ...I've installed a backdoor. How about taking a peek, Raven?
