Professor Nagai was a senior researcher at the Rubicon Research Institute 50 years prior to the events of ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON. Although he is believed to have perished during the Fires of Ibis, several of his logs can be found on nonfunctional EPHEMERA ACs scattered around the planet.
Biography[]
Nagai was one of the Institute's senior researchers and led a team that included two assistants, Assistant No. 1 and Assistant No. 2. His team delved into the benefits and potential uses of Coral as both an energy source and a computational substrate. During his research, he and his team became aware of the risks that Coral posed to humanity, namely the possibility of a "Coral convergence" or "Coral collapse" that could subsume human consciousness into the Coral, with an uncertain end state. Nagai and his team developed several countermeasures, namely the Ibis-series of weaponry.
Eventually Nagai became aware that the Coral the Institute had collected had reached a critical mass and threatened to create a convergence event. He activated an Ibis series unit, causing the "Fires of Ibis" 48 hours later. Prior to the Fires, he sent Assistant No. 2 and the son of Assistant No. 1 off-world to avoid the coming devastation.
