Walkthrough[]
A rather straightforward defense mission. There are three convoy vehicles that you need to protect, although you can pass the mission with only one surviving. The vehicles are decently durable, but are slow and need constant cover from you to make it through the canyon in one piece.
The type of MT you'll be facing here - Blue Osprey - is rather unique in that they can switch between aerial and ground-based movement, and have a deadly linear cannon that they need to kneel down to use. Thus, your objective should be eliminating them before they can kneel down. The linear cannon is the most dangerous threat to the convoy. If you see a Blue Osprey ready to fire its cannon, you will have little time to react. Depending on your loadout, you can try shooting it with a powerful weapon, cutting it down, or bracing yourself to block the shot (preferably with an energy shield). They can be extra annoying to pursue as they are pretty mobile for MTs, and have a habit of going all over the place when entering flight mode, scraping canyon walls while making unpredictable maneuvers. Destroying them quickly when they land on the bottom of the canyon is the best course of action. However, be quick about it; the transports will be destroyed in just two shots from the linear cannon of a Blue Osprey, making it the top priority to prevent these shots from landing on the convoy.
Additionally, soon after starting the mission some fighter jets will enter - don't worry about them. They have a hard time hitting the convoy as it's in a ditch. They mostly serve as mere diversion to let the Blue Osperys close in on the convoy.
There are two strategies to the mission. The first one is for more mobile ACs: interception. Seek out the Blue Ospreys actively before they take position to unload their linear cannons on the convoy. The ones on the plateau above the canyon pose little threat; prioritize the MTs that drop down to line their shots there. You may try to shoot down a few planes while going after the MTs but generally, they are of little importance.
The other approach is for heavier ACs: blocking. Simply move alongside the convoy and wait for the Ospreys to come to you, then open fire as soon as they present themselves. Bodyblock their cannon shots if there is no other way to protect the convoy vehicles. Remember to watch for both ends of the convoy. As the mission progresses, the Osprey attacks are going to become more aggressive and can come from any direction.
On a final note, the convoy can be stalled by standing in front of the vehicles. Doing so to the first vehicle may help you to keep them from entering a field of attack of a nearby MT waiting to open fire on them. The Ospreys do not stay in the kneel mode forever and eventually change their position, which can be used to force them to move away from the transports while chasing them down.
Trivia[]
- The radar part MRL-SS/SPHERE can be found east of the spawning point. When the mission starts, boost above the canyon wall and look for a building. The part can be found in-between the dish and the building it's next to.
- You will receive no extra reward for ensuring that all transports survive. The only requirement is to get at least one transport through the canyon intact.
