"Father" Thumb Dolmayan (サム・ドルマヤン) is the leader of the Rubicon Liberation Front, a survivor of the Fires of Ibis and an Armored Core pilot.

He is ranked 04/A in the virtual combat Arena.

Biography

In his youth, Dolmayan was a Doser. Before the Fires of Ibis, he made Contact with a Rubiconian wave-mutation called Seria, most likely from his repeated use of coral as a drug. After the Fires of Ibis, he began writing data logs about his experiences with Coral, declaring it to be "Rubicon's Blessing."

At this point, presumably, Coral had become the Rubiconians' primary, if not only, food source, either directly or through Mealworms. Dolmayan describes himself "imbibing Rubicon's blessings" on several occasions. Dolmayan is unsettled by the need to consume Coral, which is effectively Seria's siblings, but Seria allows him to do so, assuring "there will always be plenty." The role of Coral in the Rubiconians' survival prompted Dolmayan to found the ideology of "Coral Mysticism," which in turn would become a core tenant of the Rubicon Liberation Front after the Fires of Ibis.

Seria continued to ponder the meaning of Symbiosis between humanity and Coral and discovered the truth of Coral from Institute City. Seria tried to convince him to trigger a Coral Release to merge humanity and the coral, but ultimately Dolmayan, afraid of the possibility of it destroying the human race, refused. Seria ostensibly respected his wishes, but nonetheless Dolmayan would cut off contact with her by the time he encounters 621 at Xylem. Caught between the status quo of what he saw as exploitation of Coral, a sentient substance, and the horrifying implications of Coral Release, Dolmayan chooses the former: a decision which nonetheless emotionally devastates him.

Unlike the majority of the Liberation Front, who see the Coral as something to be worshiped, Dolmayan sees Coral as a menace that must be kept contained at all costs, for he believes that only tragedy would follow if it was ever set free. This philosophy is expressed in the full hymn of the RLF, whose first verse is the only one widely known:

"Coral, abide with Rubicon. Coral, endure within us all, For none of us shall cast the die."

Despite his addled mind and the seeming decrepit outdated state of his AC, Dolmayan's abilities as an AC pilot has not diminished and ASTGHIK is a deceptively capable machine, both able to stand toe-to-toe with newer-generation pilots and more modern ACs and MTs.

AC ASTGHIK

Father Dolmayan's ASTGHIK is an old generation BAWS BASHO AC model with the grey, red and black livery of Dolmayan's symbol. It is armed with a RANSETSU-RF rifle, a pulse blade and two spare weapons in the back, a napalm launcher and a missile launcher. Unusually for RLF standards, ASTGHIK has an advanced AORTA Coral reactor that greatly boosts its Assault Armor's damage.

"ASTGHIK" (literally translated as "a little star") is the name of an Armenian pagan goddess of fertility and love.

Gameplay

In ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON, Thumb Dolmayan is an NPC that can be fought in the Records division of the Arena for a reward of 45,000 COAM. Additionally, his Data Logs are found in missions such as "Survey the Uninhabited Floating City" and "Historic Data Recovery."

On New Game+, he appears in "Prisoner Rescue" as the last unseen prisoner to be rescued, and on New Game++, the Alt Mission version of "Survey the Uninhabited Floating City" features him on ASTGHIK as the climax boss for the mission, after he destroys a PCA helicopter with its Assault Armor.

Arena profile

Father of the Rubicon Liberation Front, veteran military commander, and founder of the school of Coral mysticism. As a young man, Dolmayan was once a Doser vagrant—until the Fires of Ibis burned the star system. In the Fires' aftermath, he developed an ardent belief in symbiosis with the Coral. This belief informed the founding ideals of the Rubicon Liberation Front—ideals that have made martyrs of countless Coral Warriors.

• ASTGHIK is the only non-Institute AC in the game that has a Coral reactor.
• Dolmayan's ability to establish contact with a Rubiconian, much like 621, along with his abnormally proficient AC piloting skills of being ranked the best of ALLMIND's arena A-class pilots despite his antiquated equipment, implies he likely has older-generation augmentations.
• Fellow RLF pilot Index Dunham is inspired by Dolmayan, which takes form in-game through the similarities in color schemes between Dunham AC's and Dolmayan's, as well as Dunham's apology to Dolmayan should Dunham be defeated at the Gallia Dam Complex.

Speculation

The following information is "gray area" content — it may not be completely factual, and/or falls under YMMV territory.

Thumb Dolmayan presumably has Armenian origins, as suggested by his surname and his AC's name. The RLF emblem also depicts Noah amidst the Great Flood.
