V.II Snail is an Armored Core pilot active on the planet Rubicon 3 during the Coral War. He is officially the deputy commander of the Arquebus Corporation's elite combat unit the Vespers, but is more often acting as their head commander due to V.I Freud's instability and lack of concern beyond tactical operations. Additionally, one of his other roles in the Vespers is being head of "re-education" of individuals of interest. He appears to be a trusted employee of Arquebus and involved in testing new augmentations on other pilots and himself.
He is ranked 06/A in the Arena.
Biography[]
Snail has a very high opinion of himself bordering on a god-complex, and treats everyone else around him with utter contempt, calling other people "dogs", "vermin", or "apes". He's also merciless and will not hesitate to sacrifice anyone to better his position in Arquebus, whether its other independent mercenaries under the company's employ or his own teammates if the situation requires it.
Fires of Raven route[]
During the fighting on the Xylem, Snail was last heard ordering V.I Freud to stop the Xylem instead of engaging C4-621. Freud however, ignored his orders, as the ace pilot was more interested in his duel with 621, than listening to Snail's orders.
Much like everyone else, Snail likely died during the coral implosion that consumed the Rubicon star system.
Liberator of Rubicon route[]
At the height of the Coral War, Snail pilots the newly-completed ARQUEBUS BALTEUS as part of Arquebus' efforts to hunt C4-621 "Raven" and Rusty on the colony ship Xylem. Snail reaches the Xylem faster than even the Arquebus interceptor fleet, then engages Raven outside the Xylem's drive block, whereupon he is defeated.[1]
Alea Iacta Est route[]
After Institute City was revealed, Snail took a task force to secure the city on behalf of Arquebus. After an advance AC team led by V.VI Maeterlinck was eliminated by 621, ALLMIND tipped them off about Snail's ambush and proceeded to his location.
Snail and his team was taken completely by surprise and eliminated by 621, alongside the renegade G5 Iguazu who came to settle a score with 621 in the confusion.
However, it is implied his AC, along with the rest of the Vespers, were used by ALLMIND in an attempt to stop Handler Walter and "Cinder" Carla, when they proceeded to go with the plan to ram the vasular plant with the Xylem after 621 went MIA.

Briefing, second line | "This is V.II Snail, leader of the Vespers' second squad. I will chair the briefing for this mission. This is an operation of my own design—consider it a privilege to be called to participate. You will be attacking the Wall, a key trading outpost fortified by the Rubicon Liberation Front. The rabble have formed a defensive line comprised of artillery and MT squads. Break through the line, then make your way to the top of the Wall. There you shall find the JUGGERNAUT, a mobile heavy artillery platform. Destroy it. V.IV will also be participating in this mission, infiltrating through a separate route. However... Be aware that Balam has also taken a crack at the Wall, only for their vainglorious hopes to be dashed. Do try not to die like a dog out there." | - | - |

AC OPEN FAITH[]
OPEN FAITH is a purple and dark gray heavyweight AC made up exclusively of Arquebus parts, with its frame utilizing the Arquebus Advanced Development Division VE-40A set. It is armed with a stun gun, laser lance, plasma missile launcher and a stun needle launcher. Its setup is based around electrical discharge to quickly disrupt ACS in order to capitalize its melee weapon.
During the hunt for the ICE WORM, OPEN FAITH uses an VE-66LRA on the R-Arm and VP-60LCD on as its R-Back Unit.[2]

AAP07A: ARQUEBUS BALTEUS[]
The AAP07A: ARQUEBUS BALTEUS (アーキバス・バルテウス) is a craft built by Arquebus off the remains of the Planetary Closure Administration's AAP07: BALTEUS autonomous craft.
Being an Arquebus product, this version is equipped with energy weaponry, and Arquebus' circulating-current generators to support them (indicated by the blue flames come out of its thrusters). Unlike the PCA original, it is a manned machine with a built-in cockpit. The things remain untouched are the Assault Armor, Pulse Armor and the missile launchers on the shoulders, as well as its AP and Attitude Stability.
ARQUEBUS BALTEUS has great Anti-Energy Defense, Anti-Explosive Defense is decent, but its armor is weak against kinetic weapons. As Snail is a highly advanced augmented human, ARQUEBUS BALTEUS' overall performance is much better than the AI-controlled PCA model.
UNIT[]
- Double Barrel Plasma Rifles
- Dual-wielded arm units, replaced the kinetic gatling guns and scatter guns.
- Pulse Cannon
- Replaced the grenade cannon.
- Eight-Cell Missile Launchers
- Same as the original that fires ordinary missiles, one on each shoulder.
- High Frequency Pulse Guns
- Replaced the additional missile launchers on the vertical rails.
- Greater rate of fire and muzzle velocity than normal pulse guns that are made for AC.
- High Output Energy Units
- Replaced the flamethrowers and additional missile launchers on the horizontal rails.
- Can be used as laser cannons and massive laser blades.
- They are able to connect with the plasma rifles to shoot a single powerful beam, like the fully charged 44-142 KRSV.
EXPANSION[]
- Pulse Armor
- Recharging speed is much faster.
- Assault Armor
Gameplay[]
In ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON, V.II Snail is an NPC that can be fought in the Records division of the Arena for a reward of 42,500 COAM, and appears in missions.
He appears as one of the AC teammates in the mission "Destroy the Ice Worm." and will withdraw once the ICE WORM reaches 50% AP.
Afterwards, Snail appears twice as an enemy in the Liberator of Rubicon route: the first is in the mission "Eliminate 'Cinder' Carla," wherein OPEN FAITH is an optional AC encounter which rewards a Combat Log.
The second time is in the following mission "Destroy the Drive Block," where he pilots the brand new AAP07A: ARQUEBUS BALTEUS as the mission's final boss and as the penultimate boss fight of the route as a whole. He is fought after the player completes the second objective, "Escape the drive block" and his defeat ends the mission. Snail's dialogue in this encounter will change based on whether he was confronted in the previous mission.
In the Alea Iacta Est route, he must be defeated along with G5 Iguazu in a three-way battle in the alternative version of "Reach the Coral Convergence".
Arena profile[]
Deputy commander of the Vespers, the Arquebus Group's augmented human squad. After receiving Generation Eight augmentation surgery, Snail continued to receive follow-up treatments as new technologies entered the mainstream so as to make their merits his own. |

AC OPEN FAITH[]
ARQUEBUS BALTEUS[]
Translation differences[]
In the Japanese script, he is addressed by Vespers like V.VI Maeterlinck[3] and V.VIII Pater[4] with the honorific 閣下 (kakka, his Excellency), which is not carried over in the English version.
Snail also describes himself as THE CORPORATION (私こそが企業だ!!!, I AM THE CORPORATION!!!) instead of ARQUEBUS (I AM ARQUEBUS!) when he pilots the AAP07A: ARQUEBUS BALTEUS.
Trivia[]
- Snail's callsign is a callback to a famous quote by Salvador Dali, who claimed "Freud's cranium is a snail!" This is likely a reference to how Snail acts as the commander of the Vespers in place of Freud, being the "brain" to his "brawn."
- Composer Kota Hoshino says Snail is his favorite.[5]

Speculation[]
The following information is "gray area" content — it may not be completely factual, and/or falls under YMMV territory.
- OPEN FAITH may be a mistranslation of OPEN FACE, which matches the design of his emblem and one translation of the official katakana.
